Military Moke
« on: February 08, 2006, 11:16:45 PM »
What makes an Australian Army Military Moke so Different?

See pics below

1. The body as whole - Rusted very badly

2. Note the map holder situated rear of drivers seat inside pod wall.

3. Left rear -  angle bracket on the rear wheel flair of which the ID Plates were mounted. Also note the Miltary UN spec. heavy duty trailer plug on the left side.

4. Right rear - again angle brackets for the ID Plates.

5. Dash board has an extra warning light on the left for Trailer Flashers. I dont know what else on here is original and what is not.

6. Left side of windscreen on pasenger pod as it rises to windscreen, an ID plate with a serial# and year of manufacture stamped all other writing has worn off. Any ideas what else this is supposed to say???

7. Right side of windscreen on pasenger pod as it rises to windscreen, an ID plate with writing on it havent cleaned this up yet to read fully. Any ideas what else this is supposed to say???

As you can see this one was a hell of a mess which is why I am doing a full restore.

Any help much appreciated

The Moke was also released with a 1/4 ton trailer as seen here. I have one of these which is also being rebuilt.

Mr Spotty,

The other original thing you missed but appears in your photos is the original paint colour under the white. On the original paint list, someone put up Olive Drab, however i cant find a listing for that on the Moke, so if anyone has an actual name or code from an army Moke please let us know.

This is a good post and hopefully I can tunr the information in to a webpage one day :-)

Anyone got any articles or photo's of the Army Mokes is perhaps better nick than Mr Spotlights project?

I posted the info on Olive Drab paint. I have the original sticker on it as seen below but no codes only Olive Drab scratched into the sticker.

A lot of those features look exactly like the ones that were found on the badly bent Moke body in my garage, yes this was also a military Moke, complete with all compliance plates (3). I belive that some of these changes, not dramatic, came from the factory, and that each body number is on a register within the defense forces, somewhere.

G'Day Spotty,
Wow, big job ahead, I wish you well.
We have an Army Museum here in Wodonga which proudly displays an original Army Moke and Trailer. If there is any particular items you want a picture of, I can shoot out there for you.

Cheers
